Dengue Fever- Causes, Symptoms, Treatment
Dengue Fever is caused by the Aedes Aegypti mosquito and by one of the four dengue viruses, DENV-1,DENV-2,DENV-3,DENV -4.Once infected with any of the viruses, one develops immunity to that virus for the lifetime, however there are chances to be infected with the other three viruses. There are possible chances to come in contact with all four viruses throughout the lifetime. Tropical areas like Central America, Mexico, Pacific Islands, Southern China, Taiwan and North Australia have high risk factors. Dengue is transmitted through the mosquito bite that carries the dengue virus. The diseases does not spread by coming in contact with the infected person.
Symptoms Of Dengue Fever
Symptoms are usually seen withing four to seven days after the initial infection. At times the confusion might arise as the symptoms are similar to that of flu. Symptoms can at the most last for 10 days which include-
- The Fever can shoot up to 106 degree Fahrenheit.
- A severe headache is experienced.
- There are swollen lymph glands.
- The person experiences severe joint and muscle pain.
- The skin rashes appear on the initial days.
- Mild to severe nausea is felt.
- Vomiting at frequent hours
- Bleeding from gums and nose
- Mild bruises that appear on the skin.
- Acetaminophen (Tylenol, Calpol650), for reducing headache and fever.
- One should avoid highly populated areas
- Usage of mosquito repellent, both indoors and outdoors.
- Long sleeves shirt and full pants should be worn
- Usage of AC rather than open windows.
- Mosquito nets if sleeping areas are not screened.
